Blackbird Girls

 Blackbird Girls

Blackbird Girls, a historical fiction by Anne Blankman, describes two girls whose dads work at a powerplant in Chornobyl after the accident they put aside their differences and come together to survive somewhere new. To begin the night that the reactor exploded there was supposed to be a safety drill and The next day nobody said a word but the red sky and burning smell said otherwise. A few days later the two characters Oksana and Valentina realized that they needed to see their fathers in the hospital and when they got the message that it was time to evacuate they were ready to go.  However, when they learn that Oksanna's mother is too radioactive they stick together. As time passes they put aside their differences and cannot be separated. and their relationship only grows as they become what their grandma calls "Blackbird Girls"

I like this book because it shows that people with differences such as religion can come together. Also, this book shows how people can grow together over time and that giving people a chance can show who they are. lastly, this book is long, surrounds the reader with what is in the book, and is very relatable. that's why I think this book is great and is a very good read.
