What Was Pearl Harbor

 What Was Pearl Harbor

What Was Pearl Harbor, a historical facts book by Patricia Brennan Demuth, describes the attack on December 7, 1941. As World War two began tension between America and Japan started to to rise. the Japanese had an Idea and on December 7, 1941, a Japanese Admiral Nagumo received the message to commit the attack. It was a calm Sunday at Pearl Harbor when sailors saw hundreds of planes above they thought it was a training exercise. But when they saw the sun on the tails they figured it was a Japanese Attack! 2,403 U.S. personnel died that day along with six civilians. the great warship named the US Arizona was sunk, and the United States joined the war.

I think this book is great because it has great knowledge and gives all the details. it explains the circumstances and provides context for the reasons for WW2. As a fan of nonfiction or historical fiction, this book has great knowledge. Second, this book provides things like why the Japanese attacked and how this was so secret the emperor didn’t even know. Lastly, this book gives context to the time and how things like WW2 started with Hitler, Germany's new leader, attacking a nearby country. As you can see  What Was Pearl Harbor was a great book.

Blood On the River

 Blood On the River

Blood On the River, a historical fiction by Elisa Carbone, describes one boy's story of the conflict in the new world. To begin, Samuel, the main character, is a thief in London and is chosen to go to the new world by the Virginia company. As he sails across the ocean he gets deathly sick alongside his counterparts because of the conditions on the tween deck.  Once they arrive they set up camp and after a few days, they are attacked by Indians. Samuel's friend tried to make it to the boats to fire the cannon while Samuel hid behind a mattress. over time they fortified their base and his friend Captain John Smith became president. Finally, Captain Smith leaves, alongside Captain Newport leaving the crew in Jamestown with little food and without leadership.

Blood On the River is a great book. it teaches about history and coming to the "new world", it also explains times of hardship like when friends of Samuel died and when little food was to spare. and it showed that people of different races and religions can live together. I say these things because the world sometimes has no idea how hard it is to move somewhere new. but also a big problem is racism and religious hatred that has caused a war. Blood On the River was a great book.

The Lion the Witch And the Wardrobe

The Lion the Witch And the Wardrobe

The Lion the Witch And the Wardrobe, a fantasy by C. S. Lewis, describes a group of siblings that discover a dying world. The story begins with the younger sister walking into the wardrobe during a game of hide and seek and walking into a completely different world. She meets a Faun who invites her for tea but reveals that he is a servant and bad things will happen but he lets her go. Later All four of the siblings of sons of Adam and daughters of Eve. the queen who has only met one and has tricked him in. but the others escape and meet Aslan who has come to save the world from the witch. and they managed to defeat the witch in the end.

The Lion the Witch And the Wardrobe is a great book because it shows that even when people don't believe you it doesn’t mean you’re wrong I say this because when the sister walks in and tries to tell everybody else no one believes her. secondly, this book is odd because all of the characters, all animals, were talking the entire book. Lastly, this book immerses you by not only putting the kids in I new world but the reader also. As you can see  The Lion the Witch And the Wardrobe is a great book.

The Boys Who Challenged Hitler

 The Boys Who Challenged Hitler

The Boys Who Challenged Hitler, a historical fiction by Phillip Hoose, describes the acts of a rebellion against the Nazis in Norway during world war II. The Churchhill Club is a rebellion that started with hatred for the Germans. their leader Kund is the leader and always wants to make their attacks worthwhile. In the early days, they used to paint walls and disable cars. But as time passed they found out that stealing weapons and burning buildings was a better hit to the Germans. Eventually, they get caught, and while behind bars they receive no news. they learn afterward that the rebels have grown and the British are stepping In to arm all of their members.

The Boys Who Challenged Hitler is a great book, it is intense, it's patriotic, and it shows more than just the main battles of WWII. Every attack is more intense and makes you hold your breath hoping that they don't get caught. it is also very patriotic as it shows the amount that they care for their country and want it to be free of its captors. Lastly, just cause they were a small group there are pictures of British propaganda that show the amount of bravery they have but it is a little exaggerated as all propaganda was. As you can see The Boys Who Challenged Hitler is a great book.

Fig Pudding

 Fig Pudding

Fig Pudding, a realistic fiction book by Ralph Flecher, describes a family who goes through some hard times as a large family. the book is told by a boy named Nate, the oldest of many siblings, and he tells his crazy family story. his longest story is about his baby brother who constantly sat under the kitchen table because he was in trouble. but as time passed, he started to realize things and make predictions that no one expected. and it turns out to be more fun for him than a punishment. but the story that leaves a mood for half the book is when his brother, Brad one of the middle children, runs into an ambulance while talking to his friends on their bikes and damages his brain stem so much he passes away. As the book goes on it is always a lingering thought in every family member's head and at the end of the book it shows their first feel-good moment in a long time.

Fig Pudding is a great book it is funny, very emotional, and makes you feel like part of the family.  First, the book is very funny. in the times before Brad's death, there are some hilarious stories like during easter when Teddy had gone around and bit all the heads off the marshmallow peeps. Secondly, it is very emotional when after Brad died you could feel the sorrow from just words in a book. Finally, it makes you feel like part of it when Sin one of the sisters leaves almost all the time and becomes vegan everyone is puzzled by this and it even prompted me to try and think why she would change so suddenly. As you can see Fig Pudding was a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be immersed into a book.
